Inter-unit kite drawing competition

KC cadets - Nadia (201), Aqila (201), Hanis (207), Yvette (301) and Felicia (403) have done us proud by being ranked first for theme 2 (Logo for Urban Adventure Challenge) and second for theme 1 (My NCDCC). Thus, they were awarded the gold medal for the inter-unit kite drawing competition which was held at Bowen Secondary School on 22 June from 0900 to 1200. This competiiton was co-organised by 9 NCDCC units, namely, Admiralty, Bowen, Changkat Changi, KC, Christ Church, Evergreen, Kent Ridge, Pioneer and St Patrick.

Duties for teacher officers assigned by OC Unit

Ms Tan Min Joo will be in-charge of calling parents (attendance), visits (e.g. CD Shelter, Civil Defence Academy, Emergency Preparedness Day) and consent forms. Ms Tan will be nominated to attend Officer Basic Course in November which includes a 2D1N Camp at Pulau Ubin. There are high rope elements, flying fox, rock climbing, kayaking and building a raft in the day time as well as dark maze (night activity). Have fun!

Mr Angus Chua will be in-charge of store room (stocktaking), CIP and NDP rehearsals.

Ms Norazian will be in-charge of precision drill competition, training and discipline.

OC Unit has compiled a list of duties for herself in a document which will be sent to all the teacher officers.

All teachers will be on duty during unit camp in November 2011 after the 'O' level exams except for Ms Norazian. After obtaining feedback from TO and cadets, we have the intention to collaborate with Changkat Changi SS again but have requested for one of their CLTs to be exempted. Approval will be sought in term 3. Camp mentor is WO Felicia Ong. In fact, Sec 4NA cadets can also help out after their 'N' level exam and volunteer to participate in the precision drill competition in November.

All teachers will help the OC Unit to do admin work such as preparing for Sec 1 CCA Fair and UOPA documentation in December 2011.

Serious incident

During the 4-day training session in KC from 31 May to 3 June, everything was fine except for an incident that occured on 3 June 2011.

Capt Lim will not reveal the case here but will implement follow-up actions.
(1) No cadet will be asked to do half right in the absence of a teacher.
(2) Even if the cadets have to be punished, the teacher must give the approval first.
(3) Cadets who are not feeling well will not participate in footdrill.
(4) Cadets who are having a fever will be asked to go home and rest.
(5) Cadets who have conflicts will be isolated / separated.
(6) Capt Lim will call the parent of the cadet who misbehaves or bullies others.
(7) Cadets will have to declare any pre-existing medical condition to Capt Lim to prevent such incidents from occuring again.
(8) Cadets will have to alert the office staff in the General Office if there is any emergency instead of waiting for Capt Lim to return to the canteen.
